River Stour Boating
as a Community Interest Company operates completely with volunteers.
After the deduction of over-heads, such as running costs, insurance,
replacement of equipment & Mini-Bus, boat registration fees
etc, any surplus funds will be directed towards river projects.
With only one lock being completely replaced in the last fifty years
and with ten more still to go, it could take hundreds of years before
complete navigation can be achieved for sizeable river craft.

With
this in mind, RSB aims are:-
(a) to raise funding to install BOAT ROLLERS around the remaining
weirs.
(b) to make portaging, SAFER & EASIER for family size canoes
& rowing boats. These would substantially cost a great deal
less than reinstatement of locks, which also have the the added
disadvantage in that, single boats are are unable to operate
the locks.
The days of resident lock-keepers have long gone.
To conclude, it is generally accepted that canoes & rowing
boats are the largest percentage of crafts using the River Stour.
RSB believe that more funding should be directed toward their
safe passage. |
