CAMPSITE
DETAILS - RUSHBANKS FARM, WISSINGTON
2010 - Rushbanks
Camp Site has doubled in size since last year.
However, the number of pitches remain the same, consequently
there is now far more space.
2011 - River Stour Boating has now relocated
its facilities to the
distant end of the site with its own Jetty
|
Rushbanks Farm
is the only official site on the banks of the River Stour and
is very suitable for boaters and canoeists. Tents, Caravans and
Campers are all welcome. It is a working farm and is situated
on the Suffolk Bank between Bures and Nayland.
|
|
Here
is where crews on the River Stour Boating two day trips
will spend the night. All the tents will be erected in readiness
and the RSB team will be on hand to greet you and to provide
a hearty evening meal.
All your personal equipment will be waiting for you. On
the one day trips the Minibus will return you to Bures or
Sudbury.
For those people taking part on our trips, the sight of
the River Stour Boating Jetty is very welcoming. The campsite,
owned by farmer Garth Bates who has been operating for over
fifty years. Garth is a member of the RSB, he has a special
affinity with the River Stour having been involved with
it since his childhood.

New
Tents for the 2010 season
|
|
|
There
is a refurbished landing stage and launching over the bank is easy.
There
are Ladies and Gents toilet facilities provided by RSB, together with a drinking water tap and a disposal point for litter.
A public footpath crosses the farm and there are possibilities of
several walks. The river here is wide and deep with approximately
a mile and a half of unobstructed water. Downstream two step weir
portages lead to the Anchor at Nayland. This part of the river is
probably the quietest and most attractive section of the whole navigation.
Leaving the camp site on Sunday morning the crews will proceed to
the next stop approximately 6 miles down stream to Stratford St
Mary where we stop for lunch at The Swan Inn on the banks of the
river. |

DIRECTIONS:-
You could use the Postcode CO6 4NA, but this has proved
unreliable with SatNav
Arriving from North or East
Take the Colchester/Sudbury A134 road to Nayland. On the
Nayland bypass find the crossroad and follow the signpost
for "Bures".
Follow this road for about one mile past a left hand lane
sign posted "Wissington Church", there is a group of cottages
on the left and a sign to the campsite, go through a gate
and follow the farm track down to the waterside.
Arriving from the West and South.
Journey to Bures located on the B1508. In the centre of
Bures by the Church and Bus Depot take the road signposted
Nayland. This will take you past the Post Office, Recreation
Ground and the Community Hall. Proceed out of the village
and keep on this road for about 2.5 miles. It is narrow
in places and very undulating.
You will then see Rushbanks (Cattle) Farm to your left and
another hundred yards the entrance to the Campsite on the
right.
