CAMPSITE
DETAILS - RUSHBANKS FARM, WISSINGTON
|
Rushbanks Farm
is the only official site on the banks of the River Stour and
is very suitable for boaters and canoeists. Tents, Caravans and
Campers are all welcome. It is a working farm and is situated
on the Suffolk Bank between Bures and Nayland on the Bures Road.
To find the camp site by road, from Colchester or Sudbury take
the A134 to Nayland . At Nayland follow the signpost for "Bures",
follow the road for about one kilometre past a left hand lane sign posted
"Wissington Church", there is a group of cottages on the left
and a sign to the campsite, go through a gate and follow the farm
track down to the waterside.

Here
is where crews on the River Stour Boating two day trips
will spend the night. All the tents will be erected in readiness
and the RSB team will be on hand to greet you and to provide
a hearty evening meal.
All your personal equipment will be waiting for you. On
the one day trips the Minibus will return you to Bures or
Sudbury.
For those people taking part on our trips, the sight of
the River Stour Boating Jetty is very welcoming. The campsite,
owned by farmer Garth Bates who has been operating for over
fifty years. Garth is a member of the RSB, he has a special
affinity with the River Stour having been involved with
it since his childhood.

There
is a refurbished landing stage and launching over the bank is easy.
There
are Ladies and Gents toilet facilities provided by RSB, together with a drinking water tap and a disposal point for litter.
A public footpath crosses the farm and there are possibilities of
several walks. The river here is wide and deep with approximately
a mile and a half of unobstructed water. Downstream two step weir
portages lead to the Anchor at Nayland. This part of the river is
probably the quietest and most attractive section of the whole navigation.
Leaving the camp site on Sunday morning the crews will proceed to
the next stop approximately 6 miles down stream to Stratford St
Mary where we stop for lunch at The Swan Inn on the banks of the
river. |
