Take a trip down the River Stour from Sudbury to Cattawade by Canadian Canoe
What we do in our spare time ?

A question that is often asked, "so what do you do when the season is closed"

The winter months gives us the opportunity to overhaul the boating equipment from the life-jackets to the canoes. We also visit the river and clear any debris that may have narrowed the channel during the summer season. There is other maintenance work, such as repairing and providing new Jetties,
ie Stratford St Mary

The Boat Yard also undertakes joinery work for our own volunteer staff.
One such request in 2008 was to build an authentic "Shepherds Hut"

In the days when Shepherds were a common sight in the fields with their flock, they would spend 24 hours a day looking after them especially at lambing time.

The "Hut" was a complete self contained unit with a bed and all cooking facilities. It was easily transported by horse or tractor to another field if required.

The "Hut" constructed at our yard was made entirely from Oak timber with a bed and woodburner inside. The side walls unlike the days gone past, were lined with fibreglass for maximum insulation.
